TODAY's Matt Lauer is surprised when the people he's casually chatting with in London's Olympic Park reveal they are all members of the Olympic diving team.
The Olympic torch has arrived in London, and so has Matt. Monday marked TODAY's first live broadcast from the Olympic park … emphasis on live.
NBC's Bob Costas speaks with TODAY's Matt Lauer about security measures being taken to secure the safety of fans and athletes at the Summer Games in London.
There were a few surprises this morning: Bob Costas almost missed his interview ("They called me 32 minutes ago!" he shouted. "You sound like Don Rickles," teased Matt.). Then, a group of U.S. athletes just wandered onto the set, more or less, for an impromptu chat ("What are you doing here?" Matt asked a seemingly random group of Americans, who replied that they were the diving team).
But at least the weather is going smoothly -- it's been sunny in London for the first time in weeks. The full TODAY crew will join Matt on Wednesday before Friday’s opening ceremonies.
